I use kernel 2.4.22-jl12 on debian unstable. My Laptop is an IBM Thinkpad
T40 with Intel Corp. PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)
(8086:1043) with the driver v12056logo_xp.zip. I use WEP-128 with 11Mb/s.
When I use ifup with the following entry in interfaces:
iface home-wlan inet dhcp
wireless_key open ***the***key***
then the dhclient gets an address. After that the the link seem to be
dead. After the call iwconfig wlan0 key open ***key*** it is working
again. But a few seconds later the keyboard is dead.
When I start the commands iwconfig and dhclient by hand, everything is OK
and no keyboard is hanging.
Has anyone the same expirience?
The problem is with debian wireless script. It should set essid at the
end; instead it does it before key is set. If you move it to the end
(before commit), it will work. That is what I use. Yet another problem
could be that it sets security mode (open, in your case) separately
from the key. I am not sure if that will work either.
