Dear friends in ubuntu
I have downloaded umbuntu on desktop, intel pentium 4.
I use EDGE-180M
usb wireless modem to connect to the Internet while
using windows XP,
how ever umbuntu does not run the software cd I try to
install for the
modem. hence I am in a fix , would some one help me to
tune up or
install , I am just a xp user and want switch over to
linux but unable to.

First off all you should provide more informations.
Run "lspci -vv" to see which Hardware / Chipset the
USB-Wlan-Device uses (I hope you are talking about a WLAN Device and not
about a modem, because ndiswrapper does not support modems)
Then you can look in the ndiswrapper wiki if the chipset is supported.
If so, install ndiswrapper from Ubuntu repository and read the part
"Installation" in the ndiswrapper wiki.
You will need to find the windows drivers for your Device on your driver cd.
Search for inf-Files and sys-files.
If there is only a exe-File try to extract using unzip or cabextrat (I think there
are allready packages in the Ubuntu repository therefore)
