I can code and I want to contribute to ndiswrapper, this project was
very usefull to me and may be I can make it a bit usefull to others too.
I was thinking in what to do and got the ideia to create a graphical
front-end for ndiswrapper. Some tool for newbies that can make find a
card, instaling and configuring it easy. Should I try to do it? Is there
already a project like that? Will it be realy usefull? Critcism, flames
and comments are all welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Windows driver .inf file processing (currently done with ndiswrapper
perl script) can use a face lift. A GUI fron-tend for it would be
nice. It can, for example, identify network devices present in the
system and identify if given driver is valid for a device (so that
users install proper driver), make sure all driver files (and nothing
else) are installed and so on.
Another tool that would help a lot of people is a diagnostic
tool. Right now there is some information in the wiki about how to
identify issues, but not many people either read it or benefit from
it. The diagnostic tool could identify the driver version being used,
check against project page for the latest version and warn if
necessary, check if 4k stacks are used in kernel, if necessary,
recompile with debug flags and load the compiled module to collect
debug trace and so on.
