after I have searched the hole net and tried irc I now hope that somebody here can help me.
Information on my system:
Kernel 2.6.10 with and without ACPI
ndiswrapper-1.0 / ndiswrapper-1.1-rc2
Acer WLAN 11b PCMCIA CARD
Realtek WinXP Drivers Version 142,154,163,166,173
More Information on my card:
RTL8180L 802.11b MAC (rev 20)
Subsystem: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8180L 802.11b MAC
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 10
I/O ports at 4800 [size=256]
Memory at 11000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512]
Capabilities: Power Management version 2
0000:06:00.0 0200: 10ec:8180 (rev 20)
Now my problematics:
First of all ndiswrapper-1.1.rc2 doesn't worked at all neither in managed nor in ad-hoc mode. Also windows driver versions 142 and 166 didn't worked.
With ndiswrapper-1.0 and windows drivers version 173 or 166 I managed to get my card working in ad-hoc mode.
I loaded ndiswrapper proberly without getting any errors. My card then says mode is Auto and my card is blinking 2 or 3 times per minute with one of two led. But it doesn't find my access point ( iwlist wlan0 scan -> No scan results ). Also I tried setting essid and key ( or without key ) but still my card doesn't seem willing to work.
Interessting is that when I set my card mode managed ( iwconfig wlan0 mode Ad-hoc essid on channel 10 ) my card seems to work. It shows the green led blinking and the yellow one lighting. But I doesn't have another wlan system for trying ad-hoc mode.
Why doesn't my card find my ap ( 2 feet away )? And why can't I set my card's mode managed ( it always shows AUTO )?
What I want to add is that this card and my access point was working two weeks ago under windows ( with another laptop I do not have anymore ). And yes my access point distributes its ssid. :-)
So I hope someone can help me.
If something is missing feel free to mail me.
With kind regards
