I did look at power management, and the power looked
low (13-16 dBm). However, iwconfig wlan0 power off
didn't seem to change anything. Are there other ways
to check this or confirm the amount of power it should

OK. The other problem was less serious than I though
and my machine's back up. There is indeed a usb port
sharing an IRQ with the wireless card (along with
several other things). You've definetly got something.
It only finds my router if I have my wireless
keyboard/mouse connected to that port. Interestingly,
it only helps to press keys on the keyboard, but not
to move the mouse. Any idea of how to deal with this
in a better way?
