Has anyone thought about the technical issues with running the ndiswrapper on an amd64 machine? I know there are problems with 64 bit pointers... but there are "32bit compatibility libraries" for 64bit AMD. Couldn't those be used? I have finally got Gentoo running well on my (new) Compaq R3000Z. This is the last issue. Thanks, Scott |

Do you mean after asking 3 times for help to set up my emachines amd64 machine to use the ndiswrapper, and stating that it's an amd64 machine, it's just not possible to make the ndiswrapper work on such a machine? I'm not using 64 bit compiler or libraries, so it would seem that everything is 32-bit except the hardware. -----Original Message----- From: Pontus Fuchs [mailto:pon...@ta...] Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2004 5:45 AM To: Scott Serr Cc: ndi...@li... The AMD64 people told me it's "theoretically possible" in in practice it's not possible to do unless you are a AMD64 expert with too much time to kill. I use a 64 Bit laptop with a 32 bit kernel. I can load the module, but I have two problems: - I cant set the essid - and sometimes the System is slowing down It would be great, if somebody can help me to solve this problems ... VMWare now (as of the last couple days) works on AMD64. I'm amazed... 2. With these AMD64 notebooks hitting the market hard, many "linux geeks" will have to have them. Of course, with integrated wireless there will be pressure for them to help out... or encourage Broadcom and friends to be... uh... friends. -Scott |
