As it took me a while to work out how to set up my network connection once I had loaded ndiswrapper, I thought I would share this method of making it easy for Mandrake users. First, update the drakxtools package to version 19.4.92 (or greater) - earlier versions had significant bugs in wireless support. Now edit the file /usr/lib/libDrakX/network/tools.pm. At the end of the file you will find the following lines: sub is_wireless_intf { my ($module) = @_; member($module, qw(acx100_pci airo aironet_cs aironet4500_cs \ airo_cs airport at76c503 hermes netwave_cs \ orinoco_cs prism2_usb orinoco ray_cs \ usbvnet_rfmd wavelan_cs wvlan_cs)) } Change to sub is_wireless_intf { my ($module) = @_; member($module, qw(ndiswrapper acx100_pci airo aironet_cs \ aironet4500_cs airo_cs airport at76c503 hermes \ netwave_cs orinoco_cs prism2_usb orinoco ray_cs \ usbvnet_rfmd wavelan_cs wvlan_cs)) } (Note that "\" indicates line continuation - this is all one line in the file) You can now use the Mandrake Network Configuration Wizard to set up your network connection and it will recognise that an interface using the ndiswrapper driver is a wireless device and allow you to enter any wireless settings you need (leave things blank unless you need to change them). Note that you should make sure that Network Hotplugging is disabled in the Advanced settings - ndiswrapper does not support this, and if it is enabled, the network connection won't come up. |
