NDIS drivers chose the channel of router associated (based on essid and
signal strength); you can't change it. IIRC it is documented somewhere in
wiki.

OK! But the problem still remains. I need to separate the commands!

I took some further tests and I saw that I need to separate the
iwconfig for essid. I mean this works

iwconfig $ETH essid $ESSID mode $MODE channel $CHANNEL key $HKEY
iwconfig $ETH essid $ESSID
ifconfig $ETH $IP
route add default gw $GATEWAY
This also works.

iwconfig $ETH  mode $MODE  key $HKEY
iwconfig $ETH essid $ESSID
ifconfig $ETH $IP
route add default gw $GATEWAY

Anyway I need to issue "iwconfig $ETH essid $ESSID" separately.
