module fails at boot, but works after rmmod

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu Warty -> Hoary, which included ndiswrapper 0.12. Now ndiswrapper fails at every boot. The module loads fine, and I can do iwlist wlan0 scan to see the AP, but it won't ping.

After doing rmmod/modprobe, it works. I found one other reference to this problem in the mailing lists, from Jay Roplekar, on 2005-01-10. I have the same driver (net8180).

It looks like something changed between 0.11 and 0.12 to break this. Anyone have a clue?
