Hi, I'm not a subscriber of nc-net-user, however I found this thread in the Nagiosplug-help mailing list that may be of interest for you. The author of the email may be using an old release from shatterit.com but since it also affects Windows's own performance monitoring apps this may apply to NC_Net 3.x and 4.x too. I hope this may be useful. Thomas -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Nagiosplug-help] check_nt returning bogus values Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2008 16:31:00 -0600 From: Jeremy Farrar <jer...@gm...> To: nag...@li... Thanks for the reply, Mark. You pointed me in the right direction to solve my issue. I compared the perf*.dll files on the server that was giving me problems with the files on a server that was working. All of the DLLs had the same version number. I launched perfmon on both servers. I noticed that perfmon did not display any counter data on the problem server. My research led me to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/152513/en-us I ran regedit and noticed that the keys located at* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\009 *were different between the servers. I copied the keys from the good server to the bad one. Perfmon.exe started running normally as soon as it was relaunched. The NC_Net service started reporting accurate data shortly thereafter. Once again, thank you very much for the reply. I would not have been able to figure it out without you. I hope my experiences can help someone else in the same situation. * Jeremy Farrar Systems Intergrator Adapt of America * -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Nagiosplug-help] check_nt returning bogus values Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2008 09:46:01 -0600 From: Jeremy Farrar <jer...@gm...> To: nag...@li... I am in the process of setting up a Nagios system to monitor my datacenter. So far, I have 55 hosts in my windows hostgroup. One of the commands that I am running against the windows host group checks for CPU utilization on the servers using check_nt and NC_Net. Out of the 55 servers, two of them return a CPU utilization of 4294967295%. All of the other servers run normally. I have uninstalled the NC_Net service and manually removed the registry entries as highlighted in the documentation that comes with the service. I still have the same error after reinstalling. I actually receive 4294967295% as the utilization if I run the check_nt command manually from the CLI. That leads me to believe that the issue is with the server itself rather than Nagios. Has anyone ran into this issue before? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Jeremy Farrar Systems Integrator Adapt of America P.S. I imagine this issue has come up before. I searched the archives but I could not find anything addressing this issue. I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before. |

The source of the problem is difficult to pinpoint, The cause is because NC_Net uses WMI to retrieve the free disk space and size of the disk requested. For some reason your host is eventually returning an 'Access Denied' instead of a result. The source of the problem may be: Some program interfering with permissions or policies. For example, make sure there is no interference from Antivirus or Firewall. Running NC_Net with restrictive access or policy may cause intermittent results as well. There could be a physical problem with your Hard disk. The WMI call to check the disk actually accesses the disk. Thus the disk may be source of the error. See if there are any other event logs from other applications or services that may correlate to this issue. Tony > -----Original Message----- > From: nc-...@li... Hello list, i have a problem with the nc_net 4.1a plugin on one of our windows = workstations (windows xp, sp2; .Net Framework 2.0), which currently acts = as a server. So far everything works fine, but after some time i am not = able to monitor the diskspace. Please have a look on the attached image, = this is the error, which shows up in the event log. Restarting the = nc_net service solves the problem temporarly, but after some time it = occurs again. Regards, Dirk |

Dear List, I have the following problem using nc_net 4.1a: I have installed nc_net client on a windows 2000 terminal server, and after a day or so, nc_net stops responding to my nagios requests. The only thing I can see in the logs is a "Timer Elapsed" warning message. If I restart the nc_net service, it works fine for another day... How can I debug the error, or (much better :) ) if you know the answer, would you share with me? Thanks in advance, Lajos |

Hi together, I'm trying to use the new Eventlog_new with a passiv check. But I can't get a result. EventLog_NEW Events5 -l ^Warning^60^^^ -w 5 -c 10 :FES_Hades: :Events5: :0: :6&6 Events found, EventID: 208,208,18002,208,208,14: Why don't I get a Warning for the Service? Can I set different Warning and Critical Values for Warnings and Errors in Eventlog? What does the 6&6 in the result mean? Greatinx Coffy |

Hello! I've got a problem with getting PerfCount on a German Windows 2003 = Server. Microsoft uses German names for the object which sometimes = contain umlaut: For example: \\Physikalischer Datentr=E4ger(_Total)\\Aktuelle Warteschlangenl=E4nge NC_Net seems to ignore those characters. From Eventlog: Exeption occured during Counter check :Die Kategorie ist nicht = vorhanden.::>\\Physikalischer Datentrger(_Total)\\Aktuelle = Warteschlangenlnge Is there a workaround? Is it possible to copy and paste the counter object names from = Performance Counter Viewer? Greetinx coffy |

If debuggin on it schould be in the startup event and for debugging reasen it would be nice if the sended password could be intigrated in the error event. no debbuging no password. and now more testing...... Hi, First just to let you know, there are only three members of this list so = far (other than myself) so the Forum is most likely the best spot for this = issue and we can always post the final email once the issue is resolved. I believe this password not working on the new version was an issue = brought to my attention several months ago. On the older startup config it required the Password to be in quotes. On the new version of NC_Net it does not require quotes. Thus=20 Version 1.x used: pass "hello" version 3.x uses: pass hello This issue may also occur with some of the other parameters that are strings. SOURCE of ISSUE:=20 I am thinking that this issue was induced by compiling under Dot Net 2.0 = or in the mechanics of how the command line is parsed. I do not remember explicitly changing the command line interpretation, but I am guessing I = use to parse out the " and maybe removed that from the code due to conflicts with parameters to other commands. =20 This issue will be better documented in the next version (which has been delayed due to lack of financing.) What are your opinions on how this = should be handled? In the next version I am planning on not showing the = passwords in the event start eventlog report. Please confirm if this resolves the issue.
