I just compiled MySQL 4.1.3 Beta from source under
Gentoo linux on i586 with python 2.3. And when I tried
to recompile mysql-python package against the new MySQL
4.1.3 libraries, I got the following error:

running build_ext
building '_mysql' extension
creating build/temp.linux-i586-2.3
gcc -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -O2 -march=i586 -pipe
-fomit-frame-pointer -fPIC -I/usr/include/mysql
-I/usr/local/include/mysql -I/usr/local/mysql/include
-I/usr/local/mysql/include/mysql
-I/usr/include/python2.3 -c _mysql.c -o
build/temp.linux-i586-2.3/_mysql.o
_mysql.c: In function _mysql_ConnectionObject_shutdown': _mysql.c:1545: error: too few arguments to functionmysql_shutdown'
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

If you go to :
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/mysql_shutdown.html
You will see that the API was changed starting MySQL 4.1.3.

This has been fixed in the current CVS tree.
