I downloaded

/releases/gcc-3.2/gcc-core-3.2.tar.bz2

patched with release 1

msp430-gcc-3.2.20021218-release1.tar.bz2

cd to

/usr/local/src/MSP430/gcc/gcc-3.2

and run

./configure --target=msp430 --prefix=/usr/local/src/MSP430

which produces the error message

Configuring for a i686-pc-linux-gnu host.
Invalid configuration `msp430': machine `msp430' not
recognized
Unrecognized target system name msp430.

Builds of the binutils and gdb were normal and
apparently successful.

My system is Gentoo Linux running on an Asus A7N266-VM
motherboard, 1333MHz Athlon / 512M DDR RAM / 20G hard
drive.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrongly, please?

the mspgcc patches do not seem to be installed. the patches from
mspgcc have to be copied over the original gcc sourcetree.

    the --
    prefix=/usr/local/src/MSP430 is not correct btw.
