hello ;-) i'm using Mozilla Firefox 0.10, tried the latest stable mplayerplug-in, now i'm using the cvs version. The problem: whatever options i specify in /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf when i play a movie it caches all the time and the movie plays slow, the hdd is blinking constantly, when i specify nomediacache=1 the movie won't start at all. I've read trough the mailing list archive but i didn't found the same problem. thanks in advance, Georgi Alexandrov |

Are you saying the option is being ignored in the release, or CVS, or both? "nomediacache" is a pretty cool option, but I know of some limitations from my own experience. I have been unable to get it to work on embedded MPEG files streamed from an Apache 1.x server. I don't know if the same is true for other media types or web servers. However, it works great with media streamed from Apache 2.x. I don't know why the web server version should even matter, but apparently it does. I hope we can find an answer to this one. Georgi, Ok here are a couple of things to try. I'm guessing you are on a slow link, like dialup? Or you are behind a proxy? in mplayerplug-in.conf try the following settings cachesize=2048 nomediacache=1 or cache-percent=100 Kevin On Thursday 23 September 2004 02:59 am, Georgi Alexandrov wrote: > hello ;-) > i'm using Mozilla Firefox 0.10, tried the latest stable mplayerplug-in, > now i'm using the cvs version. > The problem: whatever options i specify in /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf when > i play a movie it caches all the time and the movie plays slow, the hdd > is blinking constantly, when i specify nomediacache=1 the movie won't > start at all. > I've read trough the mailing list archive but i didn't found the same > problem. > > thanks in advance, > Georgi Alexandrov > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: YOU BE THE JUDGE. Georgi, Ah! Now that I know what you are doing I can duplicate some of the error. I can duplicate the nomediacache issue. I will work on fixing that. As for the buffering issue. I played a 144MB video off my hard drive with the cachesize=1024 and nomediacache=0 and it did cache the whole file. When it caching it is copying the file to the local cache. So performance of your IO system of your machine can really affect this. But anyway I'll be able see what I can do to correct this. Ok, I found and fixed the nomediacache option with file:// urls. I have just commited it to CVS and the fix should be available in about 2 hours.
