I originally thought it was a problem with the FAAD2 decoder's handling of the audio stream in mplayer. However if you extract the audio stream with mplayer and then play it back in a AAC  player the sound works... so it has to be the way mplayer  hands  over the audio stream  to the encoder...  Ive compiled Mplayer with both the internal and external FAAD decoder which doesn't help either way.  It may be Apple's way of crippling certain trailers no?

mplayerplug-in does not do ANY audio decoding. All the media is handled
by mplayer

Anyway, I can't get the audio to work with that media either. I have
opened a request for help on the mplayer-users site and so far I have
not received any helpful advice.
