    Selecting "Watch Video Device", it give me an error popup message that says;

    "Failed to run filter graph"

    What is the problem and how do I solve it? All I want to do is capture TV shows in Xvid format.

      Hello Vynum,

      This problem is an error from DirectX.
      Please check the hardware properties:
      - video input device
      - audio input device

      Are the correct settings selected?

      Note: the video input device should support RGB-24 images and the audio input device should support 16-bit stereo at sample rate 44100.

      Common video input devices are webcams and TV cards.

      Ok these two are already set at install of mpeg recorder. Also, I have no choices to make. Anotherwords there are only once choice for each in Hardware>Properties tab. They both support what you describe.

      I have directx 9.0c installed. could this be a problem? Still getting this error about the filter graph.

      OK, there is another possible problem which I have encountered and may be related, but only if you are running the recorder from a debugger:
      A DivX filter manufacturer placed a protection against debugging the filter, so installing this filter (with or without your knowledge) may causes this effect when running MPEG RECORDER from a debugger and choosing 'Watch Video Device'.

      This seems logical, but what is the solution? Is there a way to turn off debuggin in Mpeg Recorder? Also I noticed that there is no *.ini files in the programs directory.

      Just some info & a qestion; I have been running virtual dub for several years now without any problems. It has a capture mode. Does Mpeg Recorder have the same functionality as virtual dub? I've been looking for quiet some time for a program specially dedicated to the Xvid codec at realtime capturing.

      Please keep me posted if you find out anything as to what I can do to resolve this. Now I edit code and compile Mpeg Recorder, Is there any codes hacks I that I could do to get around this? And what program Did you use to compile?

      In addition to my recent response. I'm not debugging anything. I simply installed Mpeg Recorder and I am trying to capture TV programs.

      You said you were not debugging anything, so the filter that bugged me probably isn't your problem. That occured to my mind because one of the DivX filters that Nero DVD writer installed on my PC prevented me from debugging MPEG-Recorder until I completely uninstalled it (Nero). However, that filter did not cause any special effect when running MPEG-Recorder outside the debugger.

      I will see if there is a way to know what caused the filter graph to fail.

      I am compiling the application using Microsoft Visual C++ 7 (2003).

      I don't know how virtual dub works exactly, but MPEG-Recorder definitely captures TV programs in real-time with the XVid video codec.

      Another thing to check: is it possible that your video input device is already used by another application (such as virtual dub) when running MPEG-Recorder?

      1. Which version of DirectX are you using? [you can check that in the control panel]
      2. Which TV capture card are you using?
      3. What is your preferred image size in the hardware properties? Try using 'default'.

      MPEG-Recorder lets you select the video source, but only from the video viewer window.

      I can add the 720x480 resolution to the list without a problem, but it will not solve your problem.

      I am out of ideas.
