It's normal. Most analog TVs overscan and so most analog sources add a
border (or actually fail to fill the border with anything useful.

You can get rid of them by cropping the image. I'm not sure if it's
worth it as it's computionally intensive. mencoder and / or ffmpeg can
probably do that.
