Nigel,

I agree that would be the most logical solution, however the current light is built into the machine and not movable, and due to the maintenance contract in place we can't put any "unauthorized add-ons," which a remote light would be considered, wired into the machine itself.  If that weren't the case I'd simply set up a connector to know when the light was getting power, bring that in through the parallel port and use that as the trigger and eliminate the possibility of my cameras getting jostled so the mask is no longer over the light.  Basically it comes down to dumb politics, and poorly designed machines (why don't they give a serial output to pull error codes off of in the first place)

Hi Bryan,
would it not be simpler to move the "alert" light (or use a slave light) to beside the screen so that the one camera could do both jobs ?
Just a thought,

I realize this is a somewhat bizarre request, but is there a way to have motion capture an image from a different camera (camera 2) when it detects motion on camera 1?

The reason for this is at my work we're using motion in a bit of a strange way.  In a machine shop we're using motion to detect when a machines "alert" light goes on and send an e-mail to the head of the shop if it's off-hours when the alert comes on.  This is in place and working fine, however what we'd like to do is have a second camera positioned to capture what is on the screen of the machine so that the supervisor can know what the problem is and call a member of the staff working in a different part of the building to resolve the issue or come in to resolve it himself depending on the error.
