Thanks for the help now motion runs the script on picture save but now I have another problem.
Each time I motion takes a picture it prints out following error message

Cannot open local file %f for reading: No such file or directory.

So for some reason the conversion specifier %f does not work.

I tried that but motion still does not send images to the ftp server.
And again if I run the script separately it works fine,

You may want to look at 'ncftp' also - which is an
alternative ftp client which allows for some
interesting command line options.  There is an
ncftpput application which just puts files where you
want them - with command line options:
