A valid question...

I guess it's like the reason why people climb mountains.  Because it's there.

In this case, I guess I was caught-up with overcoming an obstacle (not being able to compile Cambozola) instead of being pragmatic (just use the file provided).

:-D

Jeff: if the jar files in the 'Dist' directory work why even go through
the build process? Just curious.

I sent a note off to Andy this morning and quickly received an asnwer to check
whether:

 https://zarb.org/pipermail/jpackage-discuss/2006-September/010257.html

was applicable to the "error: Could not find jaxp_parser_impl Java
extension for this JVM" problem, and it was. I'll explain how I addressed
this below.

This got me past that issue and on to the next where I received the following
error:

 Could not load class (org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.optional.PropertyFile)

which I fixed by installing the ant-nodeps RPM using yum.

After this, I was able to successfully build cambozola.jar.

The procedure that I followed to fix all the above issues was:

Delete the broken symlink in /etc/alternatives:

# cd /etc/alternatives
# rm jaxp_parser_impl

Create a valid symlink to replace the broken jaxp_parser_impl link. Please
note that your libgcj-X.X.X.jar file will may be named slightly differently,
since you're using FC6. Verify this before creating the new symlink:

# ln -s /usr/share/java/libgcj-4.1.1.jar jaxp_parser_impl

To resolve the problem where I would receive this error during the build:

...Could not load class (org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.optional.PropertyFile)...

I installed the ant-nodeps RPM using yum:

# yum install ant-nodeps

After this, I was able to run "ant" and build the jar files in dist without
trouble. I tested my build and it seems to be working fine for the 15 minutes
that I've had it running. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks!

Yes, the file in dist works great and is what I've used in the past.

I think I'll try to contact Andy Wilcock to get some pointers as to how
to set up the build environment.

Tune in later!

Jeff, good catch. I never looked in the 'Dist' directory before I tried
to do the build. Have you tried copying over the files in the 'dist'
directory?

Jeff, I was able to get Cambozola under FC6. When I would run ANT in the
Cambozola directory I would get errors and I thought the build was
failing. Well I looked in the 'Dist" directory and there were the 'jar'
files. I copied these over to my root html directory and IT WORKED!

If anybody would like to take a look; I have opend up my page to the
forum.

Ted:

Can you verify that you actually built it and that it wasn't already
included in the distribution?

I suppose renaming the cambozola.jar file to something else, running
ant, and then seeing if a new cambozola.jar is created would verify.

Thanks,

Jeff G.
