Hi Dionatan, AFAIK there is no RFC/standards document that specifically deals with the= inclusion of plain text versions for html formatted email messages. So= I am really shooting in the dark addressing this problem. This creates an issue where you will can have more than one plain/text mi= me part on the same level in the email and there isn't necessarily anythi= ng that identifies which is the plain text copy of the html part. Like I= said there's no documented right way so I'm working with samples from se= rveral email sending clients as test cases. Even if you had a standard t= o follow, you would try to accomodate as much non-standard output as poss= ible. Part of dealing with some email that I would consider "malformed", includ= ed ignoring very small text parts. Specifically I am not considering any = text parts less than 10 characters to be plain text copies of a full html= email. Perhaps this could be improved upon, but for now you will see bo= th versions for very short emails. Useful features in a mail client (that I think I've seen somewhere before= ) might include the ability to selectively display hidden parts (e.g. the= plain/text version) and also to display the entire email in its raw 7 bi= t mime encoded format. Most users wouldn't care about that, but both fea= tures would give someone the ability to display all emails. Another improvement would be including a webmail2 setting that would allo= w the user to select which of the two parts to display, always the html o= r always the plain text. Since this is a=20 webmail client and I wanted to fix this bug without changing the database= , I am currently always selecting the html version for display. Note that above I put "malformed" in quotes because I do not believe ther= e is a standard definition of this behavior. In fact a feature such as t= his that actually hides part of the email might be considered non-standar= d, even though most of the clients do it. Note also that I am not an ema= il messaging "expert" so suggestions and ideas are always welcome. Best, Jim Wilson > -----Original Message----- > From: "Dionatan Mattjie"=20 > Sent: Monday, 8. Hello, I'm working on the Italian translation because my company choosed more.groupware to be installed on our network appliance called IPBOX. We have approx. 200 installations. I completed the setup translation and I'm working sparsed on the various modules. I will continue to translate as far as our customer will complain about broken/missing translations, so the best way for me is to upload the updated files regularly. It seems to me that no other Italian translators are working, so for the moment no coordination is required? Please let me know how to contribute. Thanks for the invaluable work. -- Niccolo Rigacci Firenze - Italy Iraq, missione di pace: 43546 morti - www.iraqbodycount.net |

An improved files manager extension is available at http://laffers.net/php-snippets/files-plus The majority of the functions were revamped, and many bugs of the original 'Files' extension fixed. Advanced permissioning system has been implemented. Some features are not yet fully operational. I will welcome any suggestions on how to make this extension better, and encourage users to test it. Thanks. --rich |

This is mostly for Franky, but I'm going to post to the list in case someone else is interested. In summary, the Pear Mail_Mime::mimeDecoder class that we are using to read mail with is very poorly designed. It works fine for small and or simple attachment situations, but given a little bit of a challenge it really falls apart. This all became clear with some unrelated work invloving imap support. A while back I added what was essentially a complete duplication (doubling) of storage occupied by the "entire email string" in order to fix an imap server compatibility issue. I also left a comment in the code reminding me to go back and remove the duplication. While doing so and examining memory usage, I realized that email storage was being duplicated three or more times by the mimedecoding. Actually, if you are decoding "forwarded" emails the duplication rises exponentially for each time it is encapsulated. So a forward of a fowarded email that is 5mb in size easily blows a 64mb php.ini memory limit before it even gets close to finishing the decoding process. The mimeDecoder process does a fine job of recursing through the email parts, but in the processes it keeps making multiple (2-3) copies of the entire message for each level of recursion. What I'm finding is that the age of broadband is rapidly increasing the size of attachments being transacted via email. Multi-megabyte pdf files (e.g. scanned documents, newsletters) are common. This means that this problem has to be addressed if mgw is going to be used for mail. In order to solve this mime decoder problem the approach I'm taking is to work with a single source buffer and make use of pointers to locations in that buffer (rather than string copies). For example, rather than having a copy of the header string and body string there will just be a pointer to the start of the header and body text. My intention is to maintain the flow of the current mimeDecoder class, but just change how it handles the buffer storage. If anyone knows of good discussions on memory usage and optimization in php 4.3+ I'd be interested in seeing them. So far I haven't found much useful online other than the really obvious "include statements in a loop" kind of thing. Also I'm a little perplexed by the pass by reference in php. What exactly is the difference between a $value and &$value? Functions don't seem to make local copies of string parameters in either case. Does php allow passing something like &$value+offset for strings? Anyway, sorry for the long email. All comments are welcome. Best regards, Jim Wilson |

Hi all, Another note from a note-yet-but-would-like-to-be MGW developer. I agree this is a good time to see where MGW stands and what could/should be changed to implement a longer term strategy. I've got some ideas for that; I told Franky a while ago I might wanna branch MGW, but if the project can come back to life, it's better to start as much as possible in the way things are. Problem is the project management. Karsten is still around; his last message on the Typo3 developers list is from Oct. 26, so it looks like MGW is just not on the attention list at the moment. Whatever's gonna happen, I think at least 2 project managers should be assigned to prevent situations like this; my vote is for Franky! Problems remains... does anybody have any other means to reach Karsten? Emerson, have you tried the latest CVS code? Franky did some great improvements in the Webmail module. It's MUCH faster now. -- Alroger Luiz Gomes Filho SDEV - Smart Developments Tel: +55(11)3781-4304 So little time, so many systems . . . -----Mensagem Original----- De: Emerson Ribeiro <em...@sh...> Enviado em: Wednesday, 9. Hi There, Whilst I am still deeply interested in the MGW project, there are a number of issues that I would address were I project leader: 1. Code Base - the code base is too disparate and feels hacked together - eg. Calendar2 2. Templating Language - Smarty requires rigorous monitoring to ensure proper Model View Controller separation - Such monitoring hasn't occured i.e. the coding is a mess; it shows good techniques but classical bad formed code as well. 3. Underlying Structure - The project has clearly arisen out of one or two particular partys' needs but hasn't had the resources to survey or identify potential targets So, I think we need: 1. A SWOT analysis 2. A set of strategic, broad brush goals 3. From these goals, identify who here are interested in 'project managing' the broad goals 4. Implementing the goals What do we think? And I ask, too, is Karsten about? DSL |

Hi, I'm not dead. Normally I am the responsable of the calendar (1) development. Even if Francky said it's not an excuse, the circonstances make very difficult for me to have time... - i'm constructing my new house, and it really take lot of time and energy... - my boss don't want to recruit and we have more and more work, so i work late... But... i am always very attentive with the project and I hope well to rewrite/clean code of calendar (because the main reported 'bug' is due to the heaviness of the code (historical reasons) ). For me, the mgw project must NOT be forked (because it's important to have CVS history, etc...). I think maybe we have to 'recruit' some developpers but we need to 'direct' them. (Personnaly i need someone to code a import/export class for calendar). I promise to advance on the calendar before Christmas. Note for K-fish : not a joke : really, are you dead or only too busy ? (there are no trace of you on internet since may 2005). Kind regards, Matthieu PAINEAU |
