Most real world uses of MLT are for a video playout server operating
in soft realtime served from playlists and files. However, it was not
written with all the hard realtime considerations like avoiding usage
of malloc in critical areas and lock-free fifos. It can be used with a
live input, but its forte is really in the authoring and editing
aspects. It was not really designed with realtime control in mind;
however, a decent number of the effects parameters are mutable and
will reflect the changes as they are applied. It's hard to say since I
have not really written a realtime performance-like app. Have you
looked into the VJ software?
