I concluded that there's got to be an easier way, and there is one
(albeight it may be more expensive ;-)
I found at fry's those VIA EPIA motherboards that have everything except
memory for 129$ + Tax. Add some memory and a PSU and you have a comp.
Now, this beast can boot remotely from the network.
I got the linux kernel booting on it less the possibility to NFS mount
the root file system (I yet have to find how to do that).
If you use one of these in each room, even buying a low end amplifier
for it will be cheaper than the 2000+ they sell the niles thing at
Ultimate electronics (I found that one yesterday).
Furthermore, with a little more (about 500$) you can attach an LCD
_touchscreen_ to it and use that comp as a remote touch panel (500$ will
buy you an 8.4 inches LCD + controller + touch screen + tc controller
that transforms the tc into a mouse)
So, I think these things (the niles audio stuff) are way too expensive
for what they offer.
