No. I am fairly sure I can't run linux on the port server. I think it just happens to have a similar processor to a PC. I am looking more seriously at the UIRT or UIRT2. It is PIC based and does standard serial for i/o. Hex files are available, source files may not be available. Schematics are pretty simple. It looks to be supported by LIRC. I may have to piece the docs together from several places though.
