Recently I've picked up some 1-wire stuff, a usb adapter, a few DS1820 temperature sensors, and a DS2438 humidity sensor. I've been using the iButton_temps.pl in the public code section with great success to spawn off digitemp to get temperatures. However, in trying to get humidity levels, digitemp just doesn't work for me - it just doesn't report humidity levels. However, the sensors work as owfs can read the humidity levels just fine. So, there is digitemp, owfs, and the built-in mh ibutton code. Ideally, I'd like to pick the option that has the best reliability and integration with MH, and that will be supported and expanded in future versions. I see tradeoff's with each option Digitemp. Easy to use, however it is old, may not support new devices and seems to have a problem with humidity sensors. Owfs. Haven't used this much, but it does seen like a complex method to collect simply data, may be linux-only. Mh. Haven't used this much either, but feedback in the lists seem to indicate that it significantly slows down mh for polling, especially with a lot of sensors. Unless I can figure out the humidity issue with digitemp, I'll have to move off this design to another. It strikes me that others may be in this same boat, and others still may have solved this issue. I'm wondering if there is any value and support in consolidating or standardizing on a ibutton system within mh? Or conversely, what are other's thoughts and experiences in obtaining and integrating both temperature and humidity sensors from ibuttons to misterhouse? howard |
