I bought a regular alarm system contact from Smarthome.com. I mounted the magnet on the moving "trolley" part of the garage door opener. The switch part is mounted on the opener rail, right by the motor. It's a good location since there is an outlet in the ceiling of the garage so it's a short wiring run to the X-10 Universal Module. The gap is very small, < 1/4", but it never varies and the switch has been reliable.=20 If I get home (open the garage door) between sundown and midnight, Monday through Friday, all the lights in the house come on. If I leave home (close the garage door) between 7am and noon, Monday through Friday, all the lights in the house go off.=20 Scott -----Original Message----- From: mis...@li... I have a few DS10A's monitoring my garage doors. Unfortunately, the=20 garage doors didn't always line up and activate the magnet. The ones that comes with the DS10A seem to be able to handle about a=20 3/4" gap. I now mount the magnet on the middle track that is directly connected to the opener. This assures the 2 magnets always line up, but the gap at=20 times still varies more than the 3/4" that the magnets can handle. I'd like to simply swap the magnet for one with a wider gap. I'm drawing a blank, but where else would carry wide gap magnets locally (specifically in Atlanta) or even a good mail order place. I went to Radio Shack to see if they have any with a wider gap, but they have about the same as the standard magnet. thanks, tom --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Jim Serack" <js...@sy...> To: <mis...@li...> Subject: RE: [mh] Determining Garage Doors status Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2006 22:14:01 -0500 Reply-To: mis...@li... Tom, You could make your own magnet with some rare earth disc magnets and =3D holders like these: http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=3D3D1&p=3D3D42348&cat=3D3D3= ,4236 3=3D - likely something similar available at Homedepot. I use some of these to trip a reed switch (like inside the DS10A) =3D THROUGH the brass plates on some door locks (to tell if the doors are closed and locked). You might want to try a few different ones - as some of these probably have a gap range of a couple of inches depending on =3D orientation. If you carefully take apart the plastic case magnet that comes with the =3D DS10A you will find that there is a bar rare earth magnet inside. Jim -----Original Message----- From: mis...@li... I have been reviewing the temperature graphing functions in the MH docs, =3D and would l to know how to send data to a graph in MH. Is there any documentation in the package anywhere, or online? I have searched a bit, =3D but haven't seen much.
