I am using the common/internet_im.pl code in order to control Mister House via AIM. Of course, whenever my external IP address gets changed by my ISP (my ISP uses PPPoEthernet and my IP changes at least once a week), Mister House loses its connection to the AIM servers. I have looked at the Net::AOLIM package and there isn't an obvious place to add a hook to automatically attempt a reconnect upon a change in IP address or loss of connection to the server. I could simply add a poll to check my current external IP, or use the existing common/internet_connect_check.pl code to generate an automatic reconnect, but I was hoping for a more elegant, interrupt driven solution that would take effect when a loss of connection to the servers is detected. Has anybody looked into this problem before? I would rather not recreate work and would appreciate any advice here. thanks, Matt |
