Thanks Jim and Famille for your help.  I'll try using different voices and I will install pocketsphinx and try it out.

I use pocketsphinx_control.pl for voice recognition.

I have the old linux ViaVoice SDK kicking around.  Unfortunately, the last time I tried to compile the server version, it just wasn't compatible with any modern linux installation.  That's why I developed the pocketsphinx integration.

If you are running windows, you can use the MS voice recognition program.

Just follow the installation instructions at the top of mh/code/common/pocketsphinx_control.pl
