Hello, I made a fork of Misfit Model 3D 1.3.8 named Maverick Model 3D. Maverick Model 3D fixes various issues, improves MD3 model support (including fixing normals in exported player upper.md3 and head.md3), adds support for saving IQE models, improves Windows and macOS support, and uses Qt 5.x. The .mm3d file format was extended to save Loop flag for skeletal and vertex frame animations and changed version to 1.7. Quake 3 animation names and looping are hardcoded in Misfit Model 3D. I started modifying Misfit Model 3D in 2009 to extend Quake 3 player model export to work with Quake 3 mods and total conversions that use different animations. This is why I made loop a per-animation setting. Though it is also used for IQE models. Maverick Model 3D website: https://clover.moe/mm3d Thanks Kevin Worcester for creating Misfit Model 3D and releasing it as Free Software. I'm interested in my fork being linked from the Misfit Model 3D website as was offered as a general statement in the past. -Zack Middleton (zturtleman) |

Hi, Can anyone please guide me on how to create a smooth sphere (just like smooth ellipse). I have an idea that it requires change in cubetool.cc. but i am little confused on exactly how to do it. Any helo would be really appreciated. Thanks, Vineet |

Just for the record, among other things you answered many user questions on the forums; which saved me a lot of time. Don't underestimate the value of those sorts of contributions. I'm pretty sure I never said anything about this before, but I did notice and appreciate it. Thanks. - Kevin On Thu, Mar 24, 2011 at 5:20 AM, Dusan Halicky <dus...@gm...> wrote: > Hi. > > I am pleased to hear that. mm3d is great soft. Hi. I am pleased to hear that. mm3d is great soft. But I'm no real Qt/C++ programmer, so my help would be minimal, although I made some minor modifications/hacks in mm3d before (first person navigation while holding shift or ctrl, but I'm affraid I have no longer working code for this). I compile mm3d from sources for myself and I thing minimal required mm3d community effort now should be keeping mm3d compileable as long as possible (since Qt is constantly changing a little). And only after that hoping for some minor improvements here and there. |

Hi friends, I would like to work to keep development of Misfit. No man is plenty of time nowadays, so I'm thinking in a slow rythm that allow developers to do something without hard deadlines. Someone would like to join the effort? |

That's bad. MM3D was the only one 3D editor I was able to use from first second. Unlike blender or wings3d it has really clean, simple and intuitive UI. Good md3 support too. I hope somebody will fork the project. |

Hi everyone, I don't think it will surprise anyone on this list to hear that I'm no longer actively working on Misfit Model 3D. It has been pretty clear from the lack of releases since 2009 that I simply don't have the time or interest to work on new features. The web site and SVN repository are self-hosted. For security reasons I don't have any plans to add commit privileges for anyone. However, if there are any developers out there who are interested in forking the code and continuing development, you're welcome to coordinate on this list to find the project a new home. I'm also happy to provide links on the current website to redirect users who would like to see development continue. Thanks, - Kevin |

I was unable to build 1.4 on my OS X 10.4.9 intel system, but I only spent an hour or two on it. I'm not at all familiar with Qt, and it seemed to be configuration issues with that. I had to manually edit the Makefile to use the Qt4 frameworks instead of the original libraries, and at some point one of the test files wouldn't complete. This machine previously had Qt3 on it. I'd love to see the OS X version continue, and I can certainly give compilation advice on the versions which I do manage to get working, but if I'm trying to be realistic I don't have the extra time to be build keeper - I wish I did. - eli On Jul 19, 2008, at 8:51 AM, Kevin Worcester wrote: > Hi all, > > As I'm getting ready for the 1.4 stable release for MM3D, I thought > I'd take a moment to see how much interest there is in the Mac OS X > port. > > Since I don't have access to any Apple systems, there are a couple > things that I need: > > 1) Build reports from Mac OS X users. Hi all, As I'm getting ready for the 1.4 stable release for MM3D, I thought I'd take a moment to see how much interest there is in the Mac OS X port. Since I don't have access to any Apple systems, there are a couple things that I need: 1) Build reports from Mac OS X users. Is the latest development release (with Qt4) building and running properly for you? What version of gcc are you using? What version of OS X? 2) Is anyone willing to build and host binaries for 1.4 for Mac? Markus--I know you did this for early 1.2 versions. If you're willing and have the time for 1.4 that would be great. If anyone else is interested, please let me know. Thanks, - Kevin |

Version 1.3.7 is now live. I have updated the release with a few bug fixes, so if you built and installed a preview release you'll probably want to get the latest version from the website. http://misfitcode.com/misfitmodel3d/ Share and enjoy, - Kevin On Sat, Jun 21, 2008 at 10:11 PM, Kevin Worcester <kw...@gm...> wrote: > At long last, the 1.3.7 preview release is ready. > > Changes: > Export selected (geometry, etc...) > Improved Cal3D support (versions 700 through 1200) > Significant performance improvements for grouping, normal calculation, > and MD3 loading > Lots of little bug fixes > > http://www.misfitcode.com/misfitmodel3d/download/test/ > > The mm3d-1.3.7 tarball requires Qt4, but you can build with Qt3 using > the mm3d-qt3-1.3.7 tarball. At long last, the 1.3.7 preview release is ready. Changes: Export selected (geometry, etc...) Improved Cal3D support (versions 700 through 1200) Significant performance improvements for grouping, normal calculation, and MD3 loading Lots of little bug fixes http://www.misfitcode.com/misfitmodel3d/download/test/ The mm3d-1.3.7 tarball requires Qt4, but you can build with Qt3 using the mm3d-qt3-1.3.7 tarball. A win32 binary is included. If there are no major show-stopper bugs I plan to make this the official 1.3.7 in about a week. Share and enjoy, - Kevin |

I've tracked down the slowness on non-accelerated configs. It seems to be caused by QGLWidget::renderText(). This is used to print the grid unit size in the lower-left corner of the model viewport. In addition to causing extreme slowness, this occasionally caused an X server crash. Because it's such a severe problem for such a minor feature, I've disabled it by default. It can be re-enabled by setting ui_render_text to any non-zero value in your mm3drc file. The fix is in rev 226 in SVN. This fixes the last of the Qt4 issues that I'm aware of. If anyone has encountered other problems they haven't told me about, now is the time to share. :-) - Kevin On Jan 27, 2008 9:59 PM, Kevin Worcester <kw...@gm...> wrote: > Hey all, > > Lately I've been working to get MM3D ported properly to Qt4 (without > using the Qt3 compatibility classes that cause the Qt4 version to be > broken in many ways). Yeah, it ran fine. I also did go back and built the help files. As far as the UI. I've only messed with it a little, but the zoom level text boxes seem kind of odd (they are big), don't know if this was a known issue or not. http://users.coldstonelabs.org/russ/mm3d-shot1.png Russell Valentine Kevin Worcester wrote: > Thanks for the feedback! > > The failure on lrelease-qt4 is expected (that's the i18n problem I > referred to in my original email). Thanks for the feedback! The failure on lrelease-qt4 is expected (that's the i18n problem I referred to in my original email). It looks like the mm3d link was successful. Can you check for the binary in the src/ directory and see if it runs correctly? And for what it's worth, I've updated the config to detect lrelease also, so that should be fixed as well (rev 216). To try that you'll need to re-run ./autosetup.sh. If you want to build the help files you need to install perl's HTML::Template module (many distros label it perl-html-template or something like that). But building the i18n and help files is not really critical. Normally these are built before the source tarball is created. These dependencies are only necessary for SVN users. Thanks again for the feedback. If you can check the binary (and optionally re-check the Qt detection for lrelease / i18n) that would be very helpful. - Kevin On Jan 28, 2008 9:37 PM, Russell Valentine <ru...@co...> wrote: > Kevin Worcester wrote: > > Anyway, please try it if you have a chance. Hey all, As MM3D version 1.4 is drawing near, I thought I'd send out one more request for translators. The most commonly requested languages right now are German, Spanish, and Chinese. I've had some interest from translators in working on French and Italian, but so far the only actual translation that has been submitted is Slovak (thanks, Dusan!). If you're interested in working on any translations, let me know and I can give you all the info you need to get started. I'll even take patches from those of you who think "color" needs a 'u' in it. :-) Thanks, - Kevin |

Hey all, Lately I've been working to get MM3D ported properly to Qt4 (without using the Qt3 compatibility classes that cause the Qt4 version to be broken in many ways). This will allow the Windows port to work properly and will also provide some nifty things for everyone, like being able to tabify the dockable windows. So now it's time for Kevin's favorite game in the whole wide world--Autoconf bug whack-a-mole. I've done a fair amount of testing, but I'd appreciate if some of you could take some time and let me know if the Qt4 detection and compilation works on your system--and if the UI is as bug-free as I seem to think it is. :-) You can get the Qt4-based mm3d from anonymous SVN here: http://svn.misfitcode.com/misfitcode/mm3d/branches/mm3d-qt4 Some Subversion-specific notes: * Run ./autosetup.sh to create the ./configure script * If make fails immediately due to "missing template" errors, touch config.h.in and try again (and if you're an autotools guru who can explain why this is happening, please share) * Depending on your system configuration, the i18n and help files may not build, if you get errors here the program is already built in the src/ directory The ./configure script should detect Qt4 without supplying any command-line options. If it does not, please let me know so I can fix it (email config.log directly to me). If you notice any UI issues, also let me know. I'm not aware of any Qt4-specific bugs. With one exception--on my system with an nvidia card, mm3d is unusably slow unless I'm using nvidia's drivers with hardware acceleration. I haven't yet profiled it to identify if this is a system configuration issue or a software bug. I've tested detection and builds on Ubuntu (feisty & gutsy), Fedora 8, Mandriva 2008, and Slackware 12. Additional checks on those systems would be appreciated, but if you can try it on Gentoo, SUSE, Debian, or FreeBSD that would be extra helpful. So what will happen with the Qt3 version? Some bugs I've tracked down in the Qt4 branch will be back-ported to Qt3. I intend to release both Qt3 and Qt4 versions for the 1.4 stable branch. After that, development will continue on the Qt4 version, with the Qt3 version only getting bug fixes for serious problems. I can't say for certain when 1.4 will be released, but I will say there are no major features left on my TODO list. Anyway, please try it if you have a chance. Let me know either way: "It works, you rock!" or "It's hosed, see attached." Share and enjoy, - Kevin |

Hi, Just to let you know that there should shortly be mm3d-1.3.6 packages for ubuntu (gutsy) from my ppa archive: http://ppa.launchpad.net/marblepebble/ubuntu Let me know if you find any packaging problems. ~Ainsley |
