I would like an option to build the media library from a directory of xml files rather than having MiniDLNA try to scan directories and analyze every media file that it finds. My reason for needing this is that my media server has some USB hard drives that are attached which are usually powered off. If the library was built by scanning these files, I could browse my collection even while the actual media files were offline. Also, the xml files allow adding metadata to video files.

I would propose an xml file that would look something like this:
<video>
<path>/mnt/usb/movie.avi</path>
<format>xvid</format>
<title>My Summer Vacation</title>
<year>2010</year>
<actor>Joe Blow</actor>
<actor>Jane Blow</actor>
<genre>Home movie</genre>
</video>
