My System:
Linux rcl-nas 3.2.0-56-generic #86-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 23 09:20:45 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Version of minidlna: minidlna_1.1.0_static

Error:
root@rcl-nas:~# minidlnad
[2013/11/24 22:11:52] minidlna.c:742: fatal: Bad user '(null)'.

Any idea what's wrong here? I can't find any documentation on command line options for minidlnad, and get the same error if I try 'minidlnad minidlna' (minidlna is a valid user on the system).

Thanks!

Same problem here. [Currently running on LinuxMint 17 with Cinnamon.]

This seems to stem from the "user= " line in minidlna.conf

No matter what (valid) user I put there and no matter what such users have as directory/file permissions, it doesn't work.

MiniDLNA seems to work fine when the "user= " line is commented out.

Perhaps using a numeric UID would fare better (which is hinted at as another valid option in the preceding comment). I have not tried using a numeric UID, nor do I have interest in doing so.
