I have made a similar decision recently and chose mingw out of necessity. Develoing
under cygwin means dependancy on cygwin1.dll. There is a -mno-cygwin optino
which I tried to use. It gave me compilation errors where there weren't any
prieviously due to an insufficient setjmp.h I think...
That plus previous posters point resulted in my choosing mingw which I found
easy to setup. The download page can be intimidating. I used
http://www.mingw.org/MinGWiki/index.php/RealDumbQuickstart which got me going
in no time.
