-Wall turns on a bunch of very useful compiler warnings, and many (most?) gcc users use it when compiling. I think you would find it helpful to download the GCC online documentation, which explains all of the gcc compiler options. You can find that documentation at http://www.gnu.org/software/gcc/onlinedocs/ Questions about compiler options like -Wall, though, have little to do with MinGW specifically, but rather relate to GCC in general, so you'll probably have better luck asking questions like this to to a more general GCC mailing list.
