Have completed several ports now for (uname -s MINGW32_...).
Am in the process of finalizing (negotiating) the need for some possible (re: Msys)
patches for Python-2.2.1 source code (python.exe) with Python developers..
Planning for Mysql port as well (client and server).
I've completed the following:
libjpeg (.a and .dll)
libpng(.a and .dll)
zlib (.a and .dll)
libpython-2.2.1 (.a and .dll)

I'll be interested to see what you did to libpng. It should have
required very little to get it working with MSYS. I'll mention that
while I am extremely fallible, in this specific case I am also a local
'expert' on libpng. I am one of the people who wrote the current
Makefile.cygwin for libpng and I maintain a site where I keep a catelog
of Makefiles which contained proposed updates or new build features for
discussion by various communities of developers and for download by
hackers at large who wish to try them for whatever reason:
Did you in fact create an Autotools-based build for libpng? If so I will
be quite surprised. libpng does not have a 'configure' script and pretty
much the feeling over there (among the libpng maintainers) has been that
they don't want one, especially not one that's based on GNU Autotools.
