For the short term, you still have to follow the manual installation instructions; however... > The mingw-get release notes suggest that mingw-get is wired to get > the older, version 3.4.5 compiler, Okay, let's dispel this myth, before it gathers momentum; mingw-get is *not* "wired" to deliver *anything*. It will read a catalogue stored on the repository server; that catalogue may be dynamically updated, and anything listed within it will be immediately available for your already installed copy of mingw-get to download and install; the only requirement for you to make this possible is that you periodically run `mingw-get update', to make mingw-get aware of any updates. That said, you are correct that the on-line catalogue currently lists no more than the components of a GCC-3.4.5; we plan to remedy that over the next few weeks. > and, at first glance, I don't > see any way to specify a specific version to mingw-get. There is a way, but it would require you to manually edit your locally cached copies of the repository catalogue files; you probably don't want to be bothered with that. I'm working on the GCC-4.5 manifests at the moment; I'll notify the list as soon as I get them tested, and added to the on-line catalogue. -- Regards, Keith. |
