The first was to possibly help you understand why you were lashing out at the "Open source Community". The second purpose was to be funny. Maybe neither succeeded. The real nature of the beast is that some people get a feeling of power by "moderating" lists. They always have something to say and admittedly, some of them have the most intelligent things to say while they are not bitching about top or bottom posting. Some get this same feeling of power by making new people feel stupid for not knowing what they know. I have not seen that too much on this list but they are out there, trolls of sorts.
