Thanks, Keith and Ernie, I was able to execute your suggested commands and I did get msys placed where it should be. The minGW entry in programs still only lists uninstall mingw-get, but maybe that is not important. What is important (to me, anyway) is that I can compile a program. So I started with the helloworld.cpp.

I set the path according to what was suggested here. I then placed the following file: c:\cfiles\helloworld.cpp. Then I opened an MSDOS command prompt window and navigated to the cfiles directory. I then typed "g++ helloworld.cpp -o helloworld.exe". I got the error message "'g++' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file."
