Huh, I had always thought that "g++" is an alias for "gcc".   Well, Google suggests that g++ also automatically links libstdc++.   But I've never heard that g++ was _required_ to build c++ code correctly...

Any idea what else might be different between the two?

thanks!

When I try to compile and run the attached code, it aborts inside throw:
---
$ gcc unwind.cpp -lstdc++ -o unwind.exe

g++ unwind.cpp -o unwind.exe
