I used to see downloadable documentation before. But now that feauture is missed in the new site. I think it could be nice for some developers to have an offline documentation, not all of us can develop while being connected to internet all the time. Also some environments or companies restrict internet access.

I don't know to what your refer by "I used to see downloadable documentation before". What part of MinGW was documented that you could download?

I was checking my old MinGW files and i found some html zips and some files in help format. So i was able to know how to use some of them. But now there's nothing similar here, just binaries or source files. I miss that at hand documentation.

We could use MinGW not depending on internet. Now we need to get internet access just to read how to use something or check something you forgot.

A wiki is a nice idea, but it's online. In the other hand, an offline help, documentation, how to, will be highly appreciated.

Something tells me that this is a ``won't fix'' but let me give it some more thought.

I was thinking as far as developers have to not only program but also document, we can create some simple doc packages and update it each time something changes.

I would offer myself, but now i'm too busy those months to help with that idea, but maybe some other people can help this way. Not all the people have the programming skills required to contribute to code, but some of them have the patience and will to help to build a documentation.

I was thinking in something as nice as Java API docs is, for example. We can download it for internal use and have an at hand documentation, integrate it with the IDE and much more.

Why not with MinGW? An offline documentation you have at any moment regardless you have internet access or not when you need it.

Maybe a solution is to ask for people to make that documentation.

I think something as nice as the java api docs are. Just imagine that, if we were able to have that thing in the past, we never moved from C and C++.

I think it is not too hard, just time demanding, to take the information, compile it, and generate pdf, or html or even chm files.

    I miss that docs...

in my opinion to make a desktop application depending on a web documentation is not smart, in some places internet is not fully active so people can get concentrated in what they're coding or they have a lack of resources (like schools or orgs)

    they need OFFLINE documentation indeed!
