I recently followed the instructions on Pete's blog (http://pete-tech.blogspot.com/2010/07/compiling-mingw-w64-with-multilib-on.html) in order to build mingw64 with multilib. I noticed that most of the issues he mentioned are still problems today: makefiles need to be edited by hand, libtool needs to be copied to a particular directory, etc.
Which project is responsible for these issues…mingw64 or GCC? Are there any plans to fix them?
the libtool things need to be addressed to the libtool project and to gcc. There are some nits about detecting x64 windows executables, if there is no file-tool present.
The configure magic is something to be addressed to gcc, too.
