Looking for assistance with the following issue: my compile (latex.exe from
the command prompt) for a TeX document is rather slow. Details:
-using complete dl of MikTeX 2.6
-laptop is a brand new thinkpad t60, 2GHz core2 with 2 gig ram
-laptop runs Vista (business)
-all the relevant background bloat in Vista is off (CPU % usage is in low
single digits before and after compiling)
By "slow", I don't mean it takes minutes; the compile takes on the order of
seconds, but is still quite a bit slower than would be expected.
For example, when I put my old laptop (1GHz P3, 512mb ram, windows XP)
head-to-head with my new one, the old one actually compiles the same
document noticeably faster (perhaps by a second or half second). I don't
understand this. I expected significantly faster compiles on the new machine
given the improved specs.
Since I am the sort that frequently compiles my documents as I write them,
this is a serious annoyance. Has any one else had this issue? Any
explanations? Any recommended fixes? My suspicion is that has to do with
Vista, but I really have no clue.
Thanks for any advice,
