Using MikTeX 2.4 with Yap 2.4.1596. The system is a 1.2Ghz Pentium with Win
2000Pro in a network enviroment. I print on a HP Laserjet.
Problem: When printing to the networked laser printer I get white
characters inside black boxes. What is especially interesting is that the
boxes appear to be the boxes which bound the words in each sentence as
described in Chapter 11 of Knuth's 'TeXbook'.
The output is fine when viewed on screen through yap and also when printed
as ps from Gview or as pdf fromt Acrobat after passing it through
ps2pdf. This happens also with the simplest files.
I noticed messages about this on various ng in recent years and even a
couple on the MikTeX mailing list (indeed, a part of my message is a quote
from a previous one). Thus, the problem is not so uncommon. I could not
find any post with a useful answer to this kind of messages. I also tried
to uninstall an older MikTeX and install a more recent version but the
problem is still there. The printing process works fine (albeit slowly) if
I choose to print bitmapped rather than directly PS from yap.
I checked that the printer chosen in the appropriate yap menu is as similar
as possible to the printer I have, but not exactly since the choice in the
yap menu is rather limited.
Could anyone suggest a solution? Has anyone ran into a similar problem?
