This bug is lurking around and as far as I can see noone has a good idea.
I have been affected by this bug and I found a way to stop it.
Intel Dual Core T5600 @ 1.83 GHz
Windows XP, latest servicepacks and patches installed
Miktex 2.7 with all available updates.
YAP is crashing randomly with the message "The MiKTeX Core library
has not been initialized". There is no additional info because the
dialog box of yap is empty. Yap can not be terminated except with the
The conditions happens erratically, but often when the following
- multiple (e.g. 5+) applications running
- Yap does not have the focus
- I move the mouse pointer over yap : the crash is there.
I found out that if I limit YAP to only one CPU the crashes are gone.
So: could it be that the thread handling in the Miktex core library is
sensitive to time delays between threads running on different CPUs? Some
other Miktex programs rendering for latex2html or for yap also seem to
be affected (not as often and not as annoying)
