Hi! Until some time ago, the following piece of LaTeX code would generate a document with the table-of-contents and the list-of-tables in pages numbered with roman numerals (i, ii, iii, ...), and the rest of the pages numbered with regular arabic numbers (1, 2, 3, ...). This is the most intuitive interpretation of the code, but with MiKTeX 2.5, the table-of-contents appears on a page numbered with "i", as it should, but the list-of-tables appears on a page numbered with "1", and the rest of the text as "2, 3, ...". In other words, a \pagenumbering or \setcounter command has a retroactive effect. If the style commands are placed after the \chapter, all is well. With MiKTeX 2.4 this didn't use to happen, but with the current version it does. Is this a bug, or some caveat that I wasn't aware of? %======================================% \documentclass[a4paper,11pt]{report} \begin{document} \pagenumbering{roman} \setcounter{page}{1} \tableofcontents \listoftables \pagenumbering{arabic} \setcounter{page}{1} \chapter{First Chapter} Some text, text, text, text... \end{document} %======================================% -- Carlos Rodrigues |

That kind of instruction is applied to the page or from the page in=20 which they are issued. A good example is "\thispagestyle{empty}". >Is this a bug, or some caveat that I wasn't aware of? > =20 > So, it is not a bug, just normal behaviour. Alain Delmotte (*) I am waiting that the system stabilise and works/installs smoothly=20 before to migrate; when you are teaching it is better to avoid the possible problems which, of course, will appear *in=20 the middle of a demonstration* |

That means the bug was actually in the previous versions, and I was relying on wrong behaviour all along. Thanks for the explanation. -- Carlos Rodrigues |
