dear miktex users, you shall find a very short latex document below. if you read or preview it you shall see what problem i face with. i badly need your help. % \documentclass[12pt,a4paper,reqno]{amsart}% \usepackage{pstricks,pstnode} \newcommand{\dotproduct}[2]{\raisebox{4mm} {\makebox[#1mm][c]{} \rule[0.25em]{0.35pt}{1.75mm}% \rule[0.25em]{#2mm}{0.35pt} \hspace{1.5mm}$\cdot$\hspace{1.5mm} \rule[0.25em]{#2mm}{0.35pt}% \rule[0.25em]{0.35pt}{1.75mm} }} \begin{document} \noindent dear miktex users,\\[2mm] i need help. i write lecture notes on tensor algebra and analysis. contraction between two base vectors is denoted in the way shown here: \begin{gather*} a^{kl}_{\;\;mn}\,\mathbf{g}_k \circ \mathbf{g}_l \circ \mathbf{g}^m \circ \mathbf{g}^n\\ \dotproduct{8.00}{9.5} \end{gather*} However this solution has a disadvantage: one has two know the appropriate values for the parameters \#1 and \#2 before one applies the command. A much better solution can be achieved if we chose the packages \emph{pstricks} and \emph{pstnode}. the solution presented here works perfectly under tetex (linux). however it does not work properly under miktex and texlive. (i installed texlive so that i can check if the command mput works properly or not). The middle of the horizontal line is cleaned, however the dot created by thev command cdot is put to the end of the equation instead of being put into the middle of the horizontal line: \begin{equation*} a^{kl}_{\;\;mn}\,\Rnode{N1}{\mathbf{g}}_k \circ \mathbf{g}_l \circ \mathbf{g}^m \circ \Rnode{N2}{\mathbf{g}}^n \ncbar[linewidth=0.6pt,arm=5pt,nodesep=3pt,angle=90]{N1}{N2}% \mput*{\cdot} \end{equation*} \vspace{3mm} \noindent any help, idea, advice are welcome and are highly appreciated. \end{document} % thank you in advance. g. szeidl

You've done nothing wrong : the file cannot be downloaded because your computer cannot find it on the specified server ! Try another mirror. cheers, Corentin On 07/02/06, Gyorgy SZEIDL <Gyorgy.SZEIDL@...> wrote: > > dear list member: > > i have wanted to update my miktex installation > this morning. i always use a local repository > (d:\miktex24) for downloading the files. > > i have got the following error message: > > > > Error: The file > > > ftp://ftp.rrze.unierlangen.de/pub/tex/ctan/systems/win32/miktex/tm/packa= ges/exceltex.cab > > cannot be downloaded for the following reason: > > The system cannot find the file specified. > > > > what have i done wrong? > best regards > g. szeidl > > =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D > Dr. habil Gyorgy SZEIDL > Full Professor > Department of Mechanics > University of Miskolc > 3515 MiskolcEgyetmev=E1ros > Hungary > Email: Gyorgy.SZEIDL@... > Phone (office): +36 46 565 111 ext. 1892 > http://www.mech.unimiskolc.hu/staff/lecturers/G_Szeidl.html > =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D > > > > > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. dear list members: after installing the latest update (Date: 10/15/2006) yap does not work properly (it does not work at all). i use miktex25 with winedt (Build: 20060905, v.5.5). after getting through the usual process i tried the direct search command but it had not worked: (a) yap opened the very first page of the document however the menu commands were not available. (b) i closed everything refreshed the file name database and the format files. (in all probability this was unnecessary.) (c) i restarted winedt, texified my document. this time yap did opened however it got frozen. when i pressed crtl+alt+down it turned out the yap was started twice. i do not think the problem i am reporting has anything to do with winedt. i badly need your help. thank you in advance. best regards g. szeidl Prof. Dr. habil. Do you have problems with all documents or only with some? What happens with a simple document like this: \documentclass{minimal} \begin{document} test \end{document} Can you open YAP from the start menu and open a standard document e.g. a documentation of package? Dear Sir, I try your file and i have no problems if taking in account that the dvi viewer YAP never show all the pstricks correctly. You need only to make dvips and look on the ps file with gsview or do ps>pdf and all is ok in the pdf file (but not with dvi>pdf). With the hope that will help you. Best regard's Pierre Bach
