I have used Miktex 2.4 with Mathtimes complete fonts (purchased from Y&Y) with no problem. Since moving to Miktex 2.5 and the new folder structure under program files, \bm does not work with Mathtime fonts. In YAP, PS and pdf files just ordinary math fonts are used instead of boldmath. I have also lucid bright fonts, \bm works with them with no problem. I have found a solution which is somewhat undesirable. If I use Miktex options > Roots and put my old c:\texmf folder (inherited from Miktex 2.4) above c:\program files\miktex 2.5, \bm command works fine. I am however concerned with using this solution since I am giving priority to th old setup. I was wondering if someone can give me a hint what causes this problem. Is this a bug in 2.5? What changes should I make to the contents of c:\program files\miktex 2.5 to make it work with \bm and mathtime complete fonts. Thanks Per |

What means that either some files are missing in the miktex2.5 folder or are different to the one in the 2.4. installation. Without more informations it is not possible to say more: Make a minimal example that demonstrates the problem, and sent it together with the log-files of a pdf(!!!!!!!)latex run that use the old texmf and a pdflatex run that use only the new folders. > I am however > concerned with using this solution since I am giving priority to th old > setup. But the last bug has been corrected in october (http://sourceforge.net/search/?group_artifact_id=3D110783&type_of_search= =3Dartifact&group_id=3D10783&words=3Dmathtime) and so I think it is much more probable that you didn't install them correctly. --=20 Mit freundlichen Gr=FC=DFen Ulrike Fischer mailto:li...@ni... |

This is my second post on this subject, sorry for the insistence. I have used Miktex under older versions (2.4, 2.5 and 2.6, etc) with Mathtimes complete fonts (purchased from Y&Y several years ago) with no problem. In my Windows Vista system there was no C:\program files directory, so I created it and installed MiKteX 2.7 under that directory. No problem whatsoever in compiling files, but \bm (bold symbols) does not work with Mathtime fonts. In YAP, PS and pdf files just ordinary math fonts are used instead of boldmath. I have also lucid bright fonts, \bm works with them with no problem. What changes should I make to the contents of c:\program files\miktex 2.5 to make it work with \bm and mathtime complete fonts. Has anyone had the same situation?? Any help is truly appreciated. Andrés... --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. |

I doubt very much that there isn't a standard directory for applications on Vista. Didn't miktex suggest a installation folder? But it doesn't matter as long as it works. > No problem whatsoever in compiling files, but \bm (bold > symbols) does not work with Mathtime fonts. Either you are not using the style correctly (e.g. it could have changed) or you didn't install the fonts correctly. Search google.groups for "\bm mathtime". If you don't find a solution there: make a complete, minimal, running example that demonstrates your problem and send it together with the log-file of a pdflatex (=output pdf!) run. -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen Ulrike Fischer mailto:li...@ni... |

Andres, Like you I have been using the Y&Y MathTime fonts for quite a while and actually wrote a couple of books with them among other things. Upto MiKTeX version 2.5 the MT fonts worked perfectly with package mathtimy.sty In MiKTeX version 2.6, I noticed that square brackets in formulas, as in $$ y=a \cdot [b+c\times(d+e)] $$ disappeared. I found a way to overcome this problem by using the \left [ and \right ] constructs instead of just [ and ] as in $$ y=a\cdot \left [b+c\dot (d+e) \right ] $$ Alternatively, I could use macros mathtime.sty but, unfortunately, the boldmath command \bm would not work. When I updated to MiKTeX version 2.7, I noticed that mathtimy.sty was no longer part of the distribution. I used my old copy and things worked more or less as they did before, i.e., mathtime.sty supported the MT fonts, square brackets OK, but no \bm whereas mathtimy.sty lost the square brackets unless replaced by \left [ and \right ] but supported \bm. My final solution to the problem, actually just yesterday, was to buy MathTime Pro 2 from http://www.sciencesoftware.com/product.php?productid=272&js=n for $199 US. This company provides updated versions of the fonts with enhanced features, packages that can be used to use MathTime Pro 2 fonts in different ways as well as installation instructions. I hope this helps. ------------------------------- Andreas Antoniou Professor Emeritus Dept. of Elec. & Comp. Eng. University of Victoria P. O.
