That would be a function of the dvi viewer. It sounds like the dvi viewer that comes with PCTeX notes the coordinates of the region your friend drags out, then calls dvipng with those coordinates. Yap does not have that functionality. > My initial question was...is there a way I can do the same type of editing of > the dvi file that Winedt creates? WinEdt is just an editor, and the only thing it creates is your tex file. It calls MiKTeX to create the dvi file. I know it's kind of a nitpick, but the distinction is important -- you'll never solve your TeX problems if you blame them on your editor and vice versa. > It turns out there is a program > called dvipng.exe located in my computer at: > > C:\texmf\miktex\bin > > that evidently will allow me covert the dvi output to a png format that I can > then cut/edit. > > My question is how do I run the program?! You have to run it from the command line. You can get quick help by opening a command window and typing dvipng --help at the prompt. You can also get formal documentation by opening the MiKTeX Package Manager (Start -> Programs -> MiKTeX -> Browse Packages) and installing miktex-divpng-doc. It will place the documentation in C:\texmf\doc\dvipng in both dvi and chm formats. Alan |
