This error occurs for example if you use

\documentclass(article)

With round parenthesis instead of

\documentclass{article}

With braces.

You should try to replace parenthesis with braces.

The reason is that the command \documentclass needs a parameter and in TeX  this is the next non blank character if it is not a open brace, or the full string enclosed in braces.

Then it try to open the class with the given name. In the second example above this is article.cls while in the first it is (.cls obviously missing.

Subject: [MiKTeX] Problem with MikTeX in Windows XP Professional in portuguese

Hello,

I´m having a weird error with the wonderful MikTeX software in Windows XP Professional in portuguese because it requests a file named (.cls that is anywhere in the documentr or in the hard drive.  Is this a bug or there is another way to fix it please? Thank you very much indeed.

Sincerely yours,

André Luiz
