Since roughly Windows Vista, it's possible to start a software from the Start Menu by typing its name, e.g. by typing 'pack' MikTeX's 'Package Manager' will show up. However, if you type 'miktex' it does not show up. Also, the name is rather generic name and the only this differentiating it from any other software is the icon.
Rename 'Package Manager' (mpm_mfc.exe) to 'MikTeX Package Manager' in the Windows Start Menu. It is backward compatible and will make it also show up if you type 'miktex'.
It's possible that there are other MikTeX applications that would gain from the same relabeling.
