I had some problems with missing files in my MiKTeX installation, and I just
learned about "mpm --verify" (thanks for that, Christian, and sorry for
    overlooking that).

However, when I try to install, I get:

mpm: Package "miktex-misc" is already installed.

    I didn't find a "force" or "fix"-switch, so I tried uninstall first. I get:

mpm.exe: The operation failed for some reason.
    mpm.exe: Data: D:\Tex\MikTex\miktex\bin\initexmf.exe

    This followed by another install:

mpm.exe: The operation failed for some reason.
    mpm.exe: Data: D:\Tex\MikTex\miktex\bin\initexmf.exe

    Then a slightly surprising:

    D:\Tex\MikTex>miktex\bin\mpm.exe --verify
    All packages are correctly installed.

With some ado, I managed to get a "successfully installed" result for all
    packages. But -
am I overlooking something? Is there a more elegant way?

    Thanks in advance, h.

PS: I'd so love a preview for my postings. Is that something else I
overlooked, or is it just not possible?
