Miktex 2.9 on Win XP, installed in a user account (single user mode).

Since a few days I have problems with the package manager: When I right click on an entry a "MiKTeX problem report" pops up beside the context menu and the package manager freezes and I do have to use the task manager to kill it.

It doesn't happen always, it seems to depend on the speed/accuracy of the right click.

The content of the problem report changes. I saw "Windows API error 1446 Dropdownmenu bereits aktiv" and "Windows API error 1814 der angegebene Ressourcenname wurde nicht in der Imagedatei gefunden".

I haven't changed the hardware or drivers, but some days ago there was a windows update where 5 updates have been installed.

I made some test also on a win7 but could reproduce the problem there.

Due to a breakdown of my mainboard I had to replace most parts of my PC and have now win 7. But the problem persists. So I exclude the OS as culprit and made some tests with different mouses. With my standard mouse (a logitech M570 trackball) the problem is permanent. With other mouses there are normally no problems but with every one I could force the error dialog (and the freezing) by clicking very fast twice on the right mouse key. So it looks as if the trackball sends something that the package manager sees as two right clicks and then freeze.
